Our Lady of Mount Carmel, patroness of Chile

On July 16 we celebrate Our Lady of Mount Carmel, a feast initiated in the 14th century by the Carmelites who wanted to honor the Virgin for all the blessings bestowed upon their religious family.

During the independence wars of Chile, the nationalists named Our Lady of Mount Carmel protector of their army. General San Martín named her solemnly patroness of the Army of the Andes.

Our Lady of Mount Carmel is also patroness of sailors and fishers who acclaim her as Star of the Sea.

Your turn:

  • What dangers or internal conflicts am I having that need the protection of Our Lady?

Prayer

Our Lady of Mount Carmel, sometimes I am at war with myself. I believe I need independence from my family, and I would like to have more freedom. On the other hand, I am afraid of the waves of the ocean of life. I need your presence near me to learn how to be free without breaking the bonds with people I really love, and to learn to face life and all its dangers without fear, because you are with me. Amen.
