Oscar Romero
He was born to a middle-class family of El Salvador. He was called to the priesthood early in life. Intelligent and good-hearted, he was appointed bishop of San Salvador, which pleased the wealthy. Oscar, however, was soon aware of the suffering of the poor and started to fight for them. He was assassinated when celebrating Mass at a hospital. He said, “If they kill me, I will rise in the Salvadoran people.”
Your turn:
- Would you be willing to renounce to your comforts to aid the less fortunate?
- How far would you go?
